How to store Campania buffalo mozzarella
Campana buffalo mozzarella is a product that is as good as it is delicate: it is therefore essential that it is stored correctly.
Both fresh and commercialized cheese are sold with their own preserving whey, which serves to keep the mozzarella soft and well hydrated, inside food-grade bags.
To protect it further, especially if we are transporting it for long distances, we can purchase polystyrene containers and seal them hermetically, placing the mozzarella inside without removing it from its original packaging.
Here are some tips to enjoy it at its best, so that it does not lose its organoleptic properties.
How to store Mozzarella
Are you really sure you know how buffalo mozzarella should be stored?
To maintain the unchanged properties of buffalo mozzarella, it is necessary to take some precautions regarding storage:
- When it's cold, immerse the mozzarella in a container of hot water for 15 minutes, or place the polystyrene container on the radiator: the product keeps better at high temperatures!
- After cutting it, do not put it back in the liquid, but consume it all.
- To savor all its fragrance, it is recommended to store mozzarella at room temperature for up to 4-5 days.
- Never expose mozzarella to direct sunlight and never store it in the refrigerator, or in the freezer, unless you only want to use it for cooking.
How long should fresh mozzarella be consumed?
To fully experience this extraordinary taste experience, you must consider that:
The larger its size, the better the cheese keeps. The aversana, for example, is even better the next day.
If you cannot consume it within 4 days, use it only for cooking, taking care to drain it first.
Artisanally prepared mozzarellas are more delicate, because they are made with raw milk and pasteurized at lower temperatures, while non-artisanal ones are pasteurized at high temperatures and all bacterial load is burned. For this reason, the former should be consumed within 3-4 days.
And if there is any mozzarella left over, how can we use it?
With the mozzarella that was not eaten immediately, you can prepare many recipes, such as the traditional "mozzarella in carrozza", make croquettes, add it to potato gratin or use it on pizza, grilled with lemon leaves, in a pan with eggs, sauce and basil.
